The brief
The PCN are working to expand their current service offering and their workforce which will deliver those services. As part of the Additional Role Reimbursement Scheme (ARRS), the PCN anticipate workforce numbers to grow by at least 70 head count, over coming months.
The PCN commissioned OneMedical Property to create a detailed report highlighting opportunities to enhance space utilisation across the PCN (a combination of quick wins and longer-term project recommendations) with a view to providing information to support a draft Project Initiation Document (PID) should the PCN wish to explore this in the future.
Scope of work
Provide a detailed estates assessment to support their future development plans.
Our approach included:
Detailed space utilisation and premises needs analysis
Site visits to 19 locations to assess the condition of the buildings, to understand individual practice workforce plans for the future, and to gain an overview of access model – all of which impact the physical space and how it is utilised
Facilitation of workshops with PCN and wider system stakeholders to drive collaboration and forward planning
Comprehensive outcome report including recommendations and next steps
The analysis uncovered that for the short term, there was under-utilised space across the 19 sites of the PCN. To unlock this space requires a different approach to care delivery across the PCN, working together to enable care to be delivered at the point of need and reworking space for new roles.
As part of the outcome presentation we initiated the discussion, supporting them to create a roadmap to improve building utilisation in the short term and also highlight an approach for extending into new premises in the medium and long term. Working with system partners to understand the wider plans, to create future-proofed premises in right places across the area will be crucial in leading to true integrated care.
